Brookfield resident Nick Soto, a member of Boy Scout Troop 111 at St. Louise de Marillac in LaGrange Park, will be elevated to the rank of Eagle Scout at a ceremony on Nov. 18 in the St. Barbara Parish Center in Brookfield. It will be the last Eagle Scout ceremony at the parish.

Soto has been a scout since 2006 and was the last remaining scout from Troop 59 at St. Barbara, before it lost its charter and he transferred to Troop 111. In January, Soto received an award for meritorious action from Boy Scouts of America for saving the life of another scout in July 2017. The scout was choking and Soto performed the Heimlich maneuver on him, dislodging the food from his airway.

For his Eagle Scout project, Soto worked with the Cook County Forest Preserve district and led several other scouts in building eight fish habitats that were submerged in Bull Frog Lake in Willow Springs. The scouts also cleaned up trash from the woods as part of the project.

A graduate of Lyons Township High School, Soto is a member of the Boy Scouts of America venture Crew 126 and Addison Fire Protection District Explorer Post 343. He hopes to become a firefighter/paramedic and is already a certified emergency medical technician.
