Riverside-Brookfield High School senior Elise Wojack has been named a semifinalist in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program, and six others, including Gustas Gladstein, David Keen, Michael Kusz, Sophia Marhoul, Luka Malovic and Audrey Santora have been named commended students.
About 1.6 million juniors in more than 22,000 high schools entered the 2019 competition by taking the 2017 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
About 34,000 test takers were named commended scholars, while about 16,000 were recognized as semifinalists.
Wojack now has the opportunity to continue in the competition for one of approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships by advancing to the finalist level. About half of the finalists will win one of the scholarships.
