Police in North Riverside and Riverside will step up patrols for traffic enforcement –focusing particularly to enforce the state's seatbelt laws – during the Click It or Ticket period during the Thanksgiving season, from Nov. 17 to Nov. 27.
The goal is to reduce the number of crashes that result injuries and fatalities. Drivers and passengers can expect a ticket from Riverside and North Riverside police if they are spotted without a seatbelt.
According to a press release issued by the departments, 11 people died on Illinois roads during the Thanksgiving season last year.
Additional patrols during the enforcement period are funded by the Federal Highway Administration through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
