Winner, winner … 

The Riverside Township Lions Club hosts its annual Chicken Dinner Fundraiser on Sunday, April 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Riverside Township Hall, 27 Riverside Road in Riverside.

Tickets in advance from Lions members or at the door are $13 ($6 children 3-9). Menu includes fried chicken, cole slaw, mashed potatoes, corn and rolls. Coffee, punch and dessert included.

While you're there, be sure to visit the annual Book and Bake Sale by the Riverside chapter of International PEO from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The PEO is a philanthropic organization supporting the advancement and education of women through scholarships, grants, awards and loans. The local chapter awards an annual scholarship to an RBHS senior and contributes to other projects.

Celebrating Judy

The Judy Baar Topinka Charitable Foundation invites all to its inaugural fundraiser celebrating the life and legacy of the late state legislator, state comptroller and treasurer on April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mayne Stage, 1328 W. Morse in Chicago.

In addition the first "Judy Award" will be given to state Sen. Christine Radogno. Beer, wine, small bites and sweet treats will be served.

Used book sale

The North Riverside Friends of the Library will hold their Spring Used Book Sale April 12-15 at the library, 2400 Desplaines Ave.

Friends members can take advantage of the early preview/sale on April 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. Membership forms available at the door.

The general public is invited on April 13 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on April 15 from noon to 3 p.m.

Get a bag of books for $4. Bags provided by the Friends of the Library.

'High School Musical' at Naz

Nazareth Academy presents "High School Musical," a modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet based on the popular Disney movie, April 12-15 in the Romano Family Theater at the school, 1209 W. Ogden Ave. in LaGrange Park.

Performance are at 7 p.m. on April 12, 13 and 14 and at 1 p.m. on April 15. Tickets are $18. Reservations can be made by calling 708-387-8528.

Hope Chest fundraiser

Lyons Township High School presents "A Focus for Fashion," a fashion show benefiting The Hope Chest, an upscale resale shop associated with the Constance Morris House, a domestic violence shelter.

The show is Sunday, April 15 at 11 .m. at the South Campus Performing Arts Center, 4900 S. Willow Springs Road in Western Springs. The show is open to all ages and will feature 36 student models, with NBC reporter Lauren Petty as emcee. Tickets ($5) available at The Hope Chest (123 Hillgrove in LaGrange), at LTHS and at the door.

Lady T at the library

The Lady T Jazz Combo performs on April 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the North Riverside Public Library, 2400 Desplaines Ave. The jazz quartet features vocalist Toscanellie Marcelain, who will perform standards and songs from her CDs.

  Riverside Masonic Lodge #862 offers free mental health first aid training through an eight-hour course on April 14 that starts at 8 a.m. The training gives people tools to identify someone struggling with mental health or substance abuse issues and connect then with support and resources.   In April, the Frederick Law Olmsted Society seeks entries from students in Riverside and surrounding communities for its annual Reflections on Riverside contests. High school students may enter the Imagery Contest ($100 first prize, $25 second prize). The Poetry Contest is open to younger students. An award of $25 will go to the winner in each grade from 1-5 and $50 to the winners in grades 6-8. Rules and entry forms available at www.olmstedsociety.org.

  North Riverside Parks and Recreation hosts a free seminar on senior nutrition on April 12 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Village Commons, 2401 Desplaines Ave. Call 708-442-5515 to reserve a seat. The department will host a Kids Flea Market on April 14 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Village Commons. Admission is free, concessions available. Also on April 14 from noon to 2 p.m., get all of your unwanted papers shredded at a special recycling event in front of the police department, 2359 Desplaines Ave. Also collecting scrap metal, U.S. flags, eye glasses, cellphones and household and clothing items.

  Riverside Arts Center, 32 E. Quincy St., presents the art exhibition "Strike/Slip" featuring the work of John Grod, Stacy Isenbarger, Harold Jeffries and Jennifer Mannebach in the Freeark Gallery of Art through April 14. In the FlexSpace, "In Two Places @ Once," featuring the work Tom Burtonwood thru April 18. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.

  North Riverside Public Library, 2400 Desplaines Ave., hosts Messy Mornings for Munchkins (ages 2+), April 17 at 10:30 a.m.; Lapsit Storytime (babies, toddlers with adult) on April 12 at 10:30 a.m.; Love2Read fun reading activities (1st grade ) on April 14 at 10:30 a.m.; and Legos Club Mega Builder Challenge (1st grade ) on April 13 at 3:45 p.m.

  Riverside Public Library, 1 Burling Road, hosts a book discussion on "The House of Special Purpose: An Intimate Portrait of the Last Days of the Russian Imperial Family" on April 17 at 2 p.m. in the Quiet Reading Room. Copies available at Information Services.
