One woman was killed and another wounded in a shooting in a parking lot outside J.C. Penney at the North Riverside Park Mall on Jan. 13.

North Riverside police responded to the southwest parking lot of the mall, 7501 Cermak Road, at about 5:45 p.m. after receiving calls of shots fired. The man suspected of shooting the two women had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. Detectives continue to investigate the case.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased victim as 42-year-old Maria Ruiz, of Chicago. The other victim, who has not been identified, suffered what police described as non-life threatening wounds.

Police are classifying the shooting as an incidence of domestic violence.
