Miles G. Soumar

Miles G. Soumar, 80, of Brookfield, died Oct. 13, 2013.

Mr. Soumar served in the U.S. Army and, after marrying Ann Vodak, in 1957 built a home in Brookfield, where he resided until his death.

He grew up in Berwyn, attending Morton High School before receiving a bachelor’s degree in Northwestern University. He also earned a master’s degree from Northern Illinois University.

Mr. Soumar taught music for many years in Cicero Elementary School District 99 later became principal of Woodbine Elementary School in Cicero, serving in that capacity until his retirement.

He also was a professional musician, a woodwind specialist who played in big bands and polka bands.

Mr. Soumar was the husband of Ann C. Soumar (nee Vodak); the father of Deb (Ron) Monsen, Miles B. (Kerri) Soumar, Camille (John) Fiordirosa, Daniel Soumar and the late Melissa Soumar; the grandfather of Ryan Monsen, Kimberly Soumar, Kaleigh Soumar, Matthew Fiordirosa, Samantha Fiordirosa, Janine Fiordirosa and Benjamin Soumar; the great-grandfather of Kaydin Siedlecki; the brother of the late Charles (Georgiana) Soumar; and the uncle of Gail (Jim) Huizinga, Chuck Soumar and Gary (Amy) Soumar.

Visitation will be on Friday, Oct. 18 from 3 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10:30 a.m. until the time of an 11 a.m. service at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St., Brookfield. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
