Four players reached double figures in scoring to power the Riverside-Brookfield High School boys basketball team past visiting Aurora Central Catholic 69-65 on Friday.
Forward Andrew Veon led the way with 15 points, five assists and six rebounds. Ryan Cicenas (12 points), Patrick Hanley (11 points) and Zach Vaia (10 points) provided support. Reserve AJ Meindl also contributed with eight points and four rebounds.
The Bulldogs also stepped up defensively in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
RBHS (3-5, 2-1 Metro Suburban Conference) face a pair of tough conference road games this week at Fenton and Glenbard South. The Bulldogs will play in the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic at York High School (Dec. 26-30).
Fenwick boys basketball
AJ Nixon's buzzer-beating 3-point basket, assisted by his brother Damari, lifted the Friars to a 61-58 win at Brother Rice on Friday in Chicago. Senior forward Michael O'Laughlin led Fenwick in scoring with 16 points.
The Friars, who have won four straight games and 30 straight in the Chicago Catholic League over the last three years, improved to 7-3 and 3-0 in the CCL.
The Friars' next game will be at home against Mount Carmel on Friday, Dec. 22. Tip-off is at 7 p.m. During Christmas break, Fenwick will compete in the Proviso West Holiday Tournament.
Fenwick girls basketball
The Friars' six-game winning streak was snapped by Montini on Saturday in the finals of the Marian Catholic Invite.
In the semifinals, Fenwick upset Marian Catholic 52-43 as seniors McKenzie Blaze (23 points) and Kate Moore (17 points) led the way. Blaze and Moore each earned all-tournament recognition.
Fenwick will compete in the Dundee-Crown Tournament from Dec. 26-30.
