A resident of the 4500 block of Oak Avenue, Brookfield, reported that between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. on Dec. 21, someone had burglarized her residence. Police reported finding no signs of forced entry.

According to the report, when the victim returned home that day, she discovered that a 1.5-by-1-foot safe had been taken from a bedroom and that several items were missing from her purse, which was in the kitchen.

Missing from the safe was $200 in cash, two gift certificates totaling $165 in value, a passport and miscellaneous papers. Missing from the purse were various gift cards totaling $220 in value.

Warrant arrest

 During a routine traffic stop on Dec. 16, Brookfield police apprehended man wanted in Sacramento, Calif. for perjury/parole violation. According to the report, an officer on patrol observed a 1989 Honda northbound on the east service road, heading toward the northeast parking lot at the zoo, 3300 Golf Road.

A computer check of the license revealed that the owner of the vehicle was driving on a suspended license. After giving the driver a verbal warning, police discovered that the passenger, Chicago resident Webster J. Nolen, 53, had an active no bail warrant out of Sacramento, where he reportedly still had 60 days to serve on a previous perjury conviction.

Nolen was held from Dec. 16-19 in the Brookfield lockup before being handed over to Cook County Sheriff’s Police to begin extradition proceedings. As of last Thursday, Dec. 22, Nolen was listed as residing in Cook County Jail.

Theft

? Brookfield police reported that sometime between 5:15 p.m. and 5:35 p.m. on Dec. 16, someone stole a blue Diamondback mountain bike left unlocked and unattended in front of the Helping Hand Thrift Store, 3726 Grand Blvd. on Dec. 16. According to the victim, he left the bike outside unlocked for about 20 minutes, returning to find it missing. The bike was valued at $425.

These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Dec. 16 through Dec. 21 and which represents a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
