On May 5, a group of Brookfield Girl Scouts planted a Bakeri Blue Spruce tree in front of the historic Grossdale Station on Brookfield Avenue. The girls had earned $1 each in pennies for doing good works and pooled the money to purchase the tree from Green Glen Nursery in Joliet. The species grows just a couple of inches per year and could reach a height of 35 feet.
Afterwards the scouts posed for a photo with Brookfield Forest Department employee Victor Janusz, who did most of the digging.
The scouts included (front row, from left) Micah Olson, Malia Davis, Antonella Quercia, (middle row) Autumn Bittourna, Domenica Quercia, Amber Bittourna and (back row) Amanda Hinojosa.
