Bernarr Sumner Wixon, 100, of Westchester and formerly of Riverside, died May 29, 2012.
Mr. Wixon worked for many years as a buyer for Sears Roebuck & Co. prior to retirement. He was also active in many Riverside organizations, including the Riverside Lions Club, the Riverside Chapter of the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Riverside Dance Club.
He also excelled in sports, including fencing, golf, softball and boating and was an award-winning grower of African violets.
Mr. Wixon was the husband of the late Marion "Billie" Wixon (nee McCone); the companion of Lois Starbuck; the father of David (Barbara) Wixon and Susan (Joe) Gressel; the grandfather of Amy (Chris) Wallace, Jim O'Toole, Jeff (Sarah) Wixon, Jaron (Amanda) Gressel, Rachel Gressel and Sam Gressel; the great-grandfather of Colin Wallace, Sean Wallace, Luke Wallace, Noah Wixon, Fiona Wixon and Madalyn Gressel; the brother of Glenn Wixon and the late Howard Wixon; and the uncle of Samantha Wixon, Tom Wixon and Will Wixon.
A funeral service was held June 4 at First Presbyterian Church, River Forest, followed by interment at Bronswood Cemetery.
