Two men each have been sentenced to 120 years in prison after being convicted of robbing and raping two former Riverside-Brookfield High School students in Maywood in 2006.
Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez announced last week that Judge Paula Daleo had sentenced Cortez Lyons, 25, and Timothy Moore, 26, during a hearing on Aug. 6 at the Maybrook courthouse.
The attack occurred just before midnight on Nov. 21, 2006. Two girls and a boy, all 17 years old at the time and all Brookfield residents, were at a gas station near 5th Avenue in Maywood, when they were approached by someone who offered to sell them marijuana.
The three were told to drive into an alley behind the building. It was there that Lyons approached the car, pulled out a handgun and robbed the three teenagers. At that point Moore and a third man, identified as Christopher Pittman, arrived armed with handguns.
Moore and Lyons ordered the two girls to perform oral sex on them before raping them. The attack continued until police arrived, at which time all three suspects fled the scene.
Video surveillance footage from the gas station provided key evidence in identifying the attackers, according to a press release issued by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office last week.
Police had identified their suspects by early December 2006 but were unable to apprehend them immediately.
Pittman, who is still awaiting trial on armed robbery charges, was apprehended by police in June 2007. His capture led to the arrests of Lyons and Moore later that month.
