Robert M. Grimes, 87, of Clarendon Hills formerly of Brookfield, died Sept. 25, 2017.

Born on July 17, 1930 in Dodge, Iowa, he was raised in Berwyn, attending  LaVergne Grammar School, Morton High School and Morton Junior College.

Mr. Grimes' boyhood years were marked by tragic losses. His father, Edward Grimes, died in a prisoner of war camp during World War II, and his older brother, Jack, was killed during the war.

He was employed as a specialty paper salesman for more than 45 years, first with Chicago Paper Company and then with Leslie Paper Company until his retirement. Mr. Grimes was an avid walker and gardener; he loved to play golf and bridge.

Mr. Grimes is survived by his daughters Cheryl (Greg) Feltz, Kathleen (David) Dvorak, Connie Vizek, Barbara DiMonte; his grandchildren, Nicole Stevens, Laura Lawrence, Jeffrey Dvorak, Scott Dvorak, Ashley Vizek, Ryan Vizek, Tyler Vizek, Jacob Vizek, Theresa DiMonte, Julia DiMonte and Victoria DiMonte; his great grandchildren: Jack Stevens, Natalie Stevens, Landon Lawrence, Madelyn Lawrence, Justin Dvorak and Jeremy Dvorak. He was the brother-in-law of the late Charles Bolek and Joseph (Gloria) Bolek and the uncle of Vince and Barry Bolek.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Blanche Grimes (nee Bolek); his mother, Lois Kolbrek (nee Jensen); his father, Edward Grimes; and his brother, Jack.

Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 29 from 9 a.m. until the time of an 11 a.m. service at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St., Brookfield. Interment is at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
