Municipal employees take a lot of lumps from residents. Whenever there's a complaint, someone at village hall is going to hear it and most of the time, they have to sit there and take it. It comes with the territory.
So, here's an opportunity for residents to give Brookfield village staff a pat on the back and at the same time make themselves feel good by doing a small part for flood relief in Texas.
Last week, village staff began collecting items and cash donations to help animals affected by flooding in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. Over the weekend, they had collected thousands of dollars and hundreds of items that will soon be trucked down to Houston to help that city deal with the raft of pets displaced and abandoned during the storm.
The collection drive was a more-or-less spontaneous reaction to the overwhelming flooding and devastation in Texas, but it had an immediate effect on Brookfield residents, who stepped up to pitch in.
