The following information was obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Feb. 19 through Feb. 27 and represents a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
Brookfield police charged a total of 35 teenagers with underage drinking after responding to two separate complaints of underage drinking parties last week.
Police charged 27 teens at a party at a house in the 3900 block of Elm Avenue after a call alerted police to possible underage drinking at a party there at 11:27 p.m. on Feb. 19. Ximena Beltran, 17, allegedly told police her mother was out of town and that she had some friends over.
Police found numerous empty beer cans and bottles in the house. Although several teens fled the house, 27 others, including Beltran, from LaGrange Park, Brookfield, Downers Grove, LaGrange Highlands, Countryside, Western Springs, Forest Park, Chicago and Burr Ridge were ticketed for underage drinking.
In addition, police summoned paramedics to the residence to attend to one girl who was reportedly found passed out in an upstairs bedroom.
The next day, Feb. 20 at 11:41 p.m., police responded to a complaint of a loud party in the 4500 block of Grove Avenue. Antoinette Figueroa, 18, reportedly told police her mother was out for the evening. After finding numerous beer bottles scattered around the premises, police cited Figueroa and eight others from LaGrange, Berwyn, Countryside, Indian Head Park, Clarendon Hills, Stickney and Chicago for underage drinking.
DUI
? Brookfield resident Joseph J. Andel, 39, was charged with felony DUI after he reportedly drove his 1993 Plymouth van into a parked 1991 Ford van that was parked in the 3400 block of Park Ave., Brookfield, at 10:07 p.m. on Feb. 25.
Andel allegedly kept on driving after striking the vehicle, but was followed on foot by a witness, who confronted him in the 9100 block of Broadway Avenue. Police arrived to find the witness and Andel arguing. Andel failed field sobriety tests and refused to submit to a breath test.
Since Andel reportedly had two previous DUI convictions, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved felony DUI charges. He was also charged with driving on a revoked license and leaving the scene of an accident.
? Brookfield police charged Rosanne L. Milos, 45, of Brookfield, with DUI after she allegedly drove her 2005 Toyota Rav 4 into the back of a 2000 Suzuki in the 3200 block of Prairie Avenue just before 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. According to the report, the victim said traffic was backed up by a school bus on Prairie Avenue.
While waiting for traffic to move, the victim reported seeing the Toyota in his rearview mirror heading south in the northbound lane. The vehicle then reportedly swerved back into the southbound lane, striking the victim’s vehicle.
When police arrived at the scene, they reported that Milos staggered as she walked and admitted drinking three beers earlier in the afternoon. After failing field sobriety tests, she was arrested and taken to the station where a breath test revealed a blood-alcohol level of. 321, which is four times the legal limit.
? Brookfield police charged Countryside resident Mario Padilla, 19, with DUI after his car reportedly left the road in the 8900 block of Gerritsen Avenue and plowed his 1997 Chevy Cavalier into a house on Feb. 26 at 11:13 p.m.
Padilla allegedly told police he was alone in the car and traveling westbound on Gerritsen and swerved to avoid an oncoming eastbound car. A witness told police he saw a passenger flee from the car carrying what looked to be a handgun. The passenger could not be located by police.
Padilla was taken to LaGrange Hospital for treatment and was released to police, who charged him with DUI, driving on a suspended license and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
? Riverside police charged Justice resident Gabriela Martinakova, 30, with DUI after an officer reported seeing her car strike a curb on Addison Road near Delaplaine, narrowly missing some parked cars. After failing field sobriety tests, a breath test registered a .208, over twice the legal limit.
? Chicago resident Juan Alcala, 25, was charged with DUI by Riverside police after being stopped for speeding near Harlem and Ogden avenues at 4:18 a.m. on Feb. 27. After failing field sobriety tests, a breath test showed a blood-alcohol level of .143.
? Summit resident Mauricio Campos, 23, was charged with DUI and illegal transportation of open alcohol after being stopped by Riverside police for speeding near Harlem Avenue and East Quincy Street at 8:56 p.m. on Feb. 27. He reportedly admitted drinking beer and had an open 24-ounce beer in the car. He blew a .158 on the Breathalyzer, nearly twice the legal limit.
Burglary
? A resident of the 4000 block of Sunnyside Avenue, Brookfield, reported that sometime in the overnight hours of Feb. 24-25 someone smashed out the passenger side window of a 1995 GMC Jimmy and removed a Pioneer stereo face plate ($300) and a duffel bag full of tools ($300).
