Cub Scouts from Riverside and Brookfield put their car design skills to the test last month, competing in Pack 24’s Pinewood Derby on April 15. Each scout was given a 7-inch block of wood, wheels and axles.

Pack 24’s first place award for the fastest car went to Abraham Ourth, a Bear Cub and third-grader at Central School in Riverside. Christian Krause took second place, while third went to Tyler Plunkett. Both Krause and Plunkett are Webelo scouts.

Awards for Most Scout-Like went to: Mitchell Malloy, Brendan Barger Elliott and Joey Rogers. Awards for Most Original cars went to Nick Schliep, Joey Jones, Ryan Barcal and Sam Falk. Those winning awards for Best Paint Job were Christian Burmeister, Christian Krause and Drake Zuschlag.

Riverside Presbyterian Church sponsors Pack 24. All 36 member boys attend Riverside schools, and scouts and leaders from Boy Scout Troop 24 served as race officials.
