Riverside police Monday released a composite drawing of a man who reportedly attempted to abduct a 24-year-old Chicago woman in downtown Riverside around 10 a.m. on Oct. 20. The man is described as a white male, possibly in his mid-20s, with short dark hair (possibly a crew cut), no facial hair, a light complexion and wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.
According to the report, the woman had exited a Metra train in Riverside and called a cab from the north platform. After waiting 15 minutes, the woman called the cab company again, and was told to look for a red cab.
Soon after, a red car drove up and the driver opened the door and asked the woman if she wanted a ride. The woman asked if he was the cab driver, whereupon the man said no, but asked if she wanted a ride anyway. He also reportedly grabbed the woman by the hand. The woman, who was not threatened and said she didn’t struggle with the man, was able to free herself. The man left after a bicyclist rode near. The car was described as a newer burgundy-colored 2002 or 2003, two-door car, possibly a Saturn.
The victim reported the incident to police later that morning. Police could not locate a suspect, but called a police sketch artist, who met with the victim Saturday morning.
DUI
Brookfield police charged Yvona Ruckschlosva, 36, with driving under the influence after an officer witnessed her speeding 47 mph in a 30 mph zone westbound in the 9100 block of 31st Street on Oct. 21 at 12:11 a.m.
According to the report Ruckschlosva did not pull over for two blocks after the officer flashed his lights. She then submitted to field sobriety tests, failing each one. At the station, the Breathalyzer showed a blood-alcohol content of .132, nearly twice the legal limit. She was also cited for improper lane usage.
n Willow Springs resident Taylor M. Roti, 18, was charged under the state’s zero tolerance law for minors with driving under the influence after a traffic stop near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and 39th Street at 4 a.m. on Oct. 23.
According to the report, police stopped Roti for speeding 45 mph in a 30 mph zone. During the stop, the officer reported that Roti appeared intoxicated. Roti refused to take any sobriety tests, including a breath test. She was also cited for speeding.
Burglary
During the overnight hours of Oct. 22-23, someone broke into a locked 1999 Ford pickup parked in the driveway of a residence in the 3700 block of Blanchan Avenue, Brookfield, and stole a piece of luggage containing various personal items. The loss was valued at $200. Police observed a puncture in the passenger side door below the lock, where the offender broke the lock to gain entry to the vehicle. An apparent attempt to pry open the toolbox located in the truck bed failed.
Vehicle theft
A resident of the 4600 block of Grove Avenue, Brookfield, reported that sometime between 6:30 and 8 p.m. on Oct. 20, someone stole her tan, 4-door 2002 Chevy Malibu.
n Sometime between 10:15 and 11 p.m. on Oct. 20, someone stole a white 2001 Mercury Mountaineer SUV from in front of a residence in the 9100 block of Sherman Avenue, Brookfield. The owner reported that a stroller (valued at $270), work clothes (valued at $300) and miscellaneous CDs were inside the vehicle at the time of theft.
Theft
n Halloween decorations were reported stolen from in front of a residence in the 3700 block of Blanchan Avenue on Oct. 23. A 12-foot blow-up pumpkin (valued at $70) and a 4-foot Mickey Mouse (valued at $40) were taken sometime between 11 p.m. on Oct. 22 and 1 a.m. on Oct. 23.
n An inflatable 7-foot-high Halloween decoration described as a black, white and gray arch (valued at $75) with Happy Halloween written across the top was stolen from a residence in the 9100 block of 30th Street, Brookfield. The decoration was taken around 9 p.m. on Oct. 22.
n Sometime during the overnight hours of Oct. 22-23, someone stole a black and gold inflatable witch decoration (valued at $80) from the front yard of a residence in the 4400 block of Forest Avenue.
n A 13-year-old Brookfield resident reported to police that while he was inside a business on the 9100 block of Broadway Avenue, Brookfield, talking to a friend, someone stole his black Haro BMX bike, valued at $250. The victim chased the offender, who was last seen eastbound on Monroe Avenue.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Riverside and Brookfield police departments from Oct. 16 through Oct. 23 and represents a portion of the incidents to which police responded. Unless otherwise indicated, anyone named in these reports has only been charged with a crime. The cases have not yet been adjudicated.
