Alwin J. Anderson, 81, Made prosthetic devices
Alwin J. Anderson, 81, a 54-year resident of Brookfield died Jan. 8, 2006 at Hines V.A. Hospital in Maywood.
Mr. Anderson moved to Brookfield in 1951, after serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Gertrude Becker on Sept. 14, 1946 at St. Peter Church in Skokie, and four years later the couple moved to Brookfield. For 35 years, until 1979, he worked at the Hines V.A. Hospital as a maker of prosthetic devices.
In addition, Mr. Anderson was a member of the Brookfield VFW Post #2868 and a member of the Buick Club of America. He collected classic Buick cars, Lionel electric trains and stamps.
Mr. Anderson is survived by his wife, Gertrude Anderson; his sons, Allan (Irma) Anderson, Ralph (Debbie) Anderson and Phillip Anderson; his daughters, Carol (Robert) Haak, Susan (Michael) Krischler and Marilyn (Mark) Penick; and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Paul Anderson, on June 29, 1975.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 11 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 3845 Prairie Ave., Brookfield. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Jan. 12 at 10 a.m. at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave., Brookfield, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Donald G. Bergman, 69, Accountant
Former Brookfield resident Donald G. Bergman died Dec. 31, 2005 at his home in LaGrange at the age of 69.
Mr. Bergman was born in 1936 and raised in Brookfield by his parents, George and Ina (nee Olson) Bergman. He attended S.E. Gross Elementary School and graduated from Riverside-Brookfield High School in 1954.
He later became an accountant, working for 10 years in Chicago for the Burlington Railroad. In 1995, he moved to LaGrange, where he lived until his death. He was a member of both the Lions and Moose clubs and enjoyed boating and reading.
Mr. Bergman is survived by his son, Michael (Amy) Bergman of Montrose, Colo.; his grandchildren, Rebecca Jackson, Michael Bergman II, Carson Bergman and Amanda Bergman; and his sisters, Mary Beth Bartik and Lynn McHugh. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, John Bergman.
A funeral service was held Jan. 5 at Johnson Funeral Home, Brookfield. Memorial contributions were appreciated to the American Cancer Society.
Joseph Pilipiszyn, 75, Civil engineer
Joseph Pilipiszyn, a Brookfield resident, died Jan. 3, 2006 at Foster G. McGaw Hospital on the campus of Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. He was 75 years old.
Mr. Pilipiszyn was born in Poland on Sept. 4, 1930 to Ignacy and Antonina Pilipiszyn. He married Salomea Lisiecki and worked as a civil engineer before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Salomea Pilipiszyn of Brookfield; his mother, Antonina Pilipiszyn; his sons, Robert (Sandra) Pilipiszyn and Gregory Pilipiszyn; his grandchildren, Ashley, Christopher, Brittany and Chelsea Pilipiszyn; his sister, Stanislawa (Zygmunt) Derkacz; his sisters-in-law Wanda (Anthony) Lisiecki and Teresa (Anthony) Chudzik. He was preceded in death by his father; his brother, Frank (Danuta) Pilipiszyn; and his sister-in-law, Harriet (the late Paul) Kolodziejczak; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 6 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park, followed by interment at Resurrection cemetery in Justice.

Josephine M. Salvino, 94, Candy maker
Josephine Salvino (nee Salerno), 94, resident of North Riverside who formerly lived in Cicero, died Jan. 4, 2006 at LaGrange Memorial Hospital.
Born in Akron, Colo. on June 26, 1911 to Michael and Theresa Salerno, she was one of seven children. She later married Dominic J. Salvino and worked as a candy maker at Mrs. Sittler’s Candy. Mr. Salvino preceded his wife in death, as did her brother, Frank (Angeline) Salerno, and her sisters, Marie (the late Frank) Marasco, Rose (the late Frank) Levy, Alice Salerno, and Bess (the late Peter) Salvino.
Ms. Salvino is survived by her son, Dominic M. (Gertrude) Salvino of North Riverside; her daughter, Marilynn (Robert) Murray; her grandchildren, Brian Murray, Dominic J. Salvino, Lisa Romy and Kelly Renzi; her brother, Joseph (Dorothy) Salerno; nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 9 at Mater Christi Church in North Riverside, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

Arlene N. Skryd, 68, Former Riverside resident
Arlene N. Skryd, 68, a Countryside resident who formerly lived in Riverside and Cicero, died Jan. 6, 2006 at LaGrange Hospital.
A homemaker who raised eight children, Ms. Skryd is survived by her husband, Thomas J. Skryd; her children, Thomas J. (Michele) Skryd Jr., Susan (James) Kintz, Paul (Susan) Skryd, Pamela (James II) Jenks, David Skryd, Steven (Lisa) Skryd, Sharon (Robert) Koys and Rob Skryd; her 14 grandchildren, Thomas III, Rachel, Stephanie, Kristin, Brittany, Natalie, James III, Lauren, Caitlin, Cassandra, Hailey, Alexandra, Vanessa and Robert; her brother, John (Paula) Serbin; and her sister, Mariann (Daniel) Valosek.
Visitation is Friday, Jan. 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. at Conboy-Westchester Funeral Home, 10501 W. Cermak Road, Westchester. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, Jan. 14 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, 3010 S. 48th Ct., Cicero.
