Over 150 baton twirlers from all over the State of Illinois competed at the Winterfest competition of the National Baton Twirling Association Feb. 26 in Streamwood.
Some 12 Riverside residents on Team Twirling Stars Gold and Team Twirling Stars Blue from the Peggy Rose Academy of Dance and Baton in Berwyn brought home top honors in the dance twirling team and half-time show twirl team competitions.
Team Twirling Stars Gold received first place in the juvenile category of Dance Twirl Team and in the juvenile category of Half Time Show Twirl Team. Gold team members include Annie Childers, Clair Childers, Rachel Corcoran, Amanda Kostro, Taylor Owen, Clara Shaw, Camilla Shaw and Kelsey Stirek, all of Riverside.
Team Twirling Stars Blue received first place in the tiny tot category of Dance Twirl Team and in the tiny tot category of Half Time Show Twirl Team. Blue team members include Lana Herrmann, Natalie O’Callaghan, Mary O’Callaghan, Sella Shaw and Calina Shaw, all of Riverside, and Morgan Pondell, of Berwyn.
