The Village of Brookfield’s board and department heads will begin deliberations on the 2006-07 fiscal year budget tonight. The board and Village Manager Riccardo Ginex will begin meeting with department heads at 5:30 p.m. in the Edward Barcal Hall of the Brookfield village hall, 8820 Brookfield Ave.
There will be at least one more budget session on Wednesday, March 29, also at 5:30 p.m. at village hall. Ginex said that if the board needs additional sessions, they will be scheduled.
The purpose of the workshops will be to finalize spending plans for each village department in the coming fiscal year, which begins on May 1.
According to the agendas of the workshops, the meeting tonight will focus on budgeting for the village manager’s office, Public Works Department and capital expenditures, Fire Department, Finance Department and Code Administration.
On March 29, the board will turn its attention to the Police Department, Recreation Department and special events, village boards and commissions, enterprise funds and pension funds.
Scheduling the workshops in March is a departure from the village’s routine in recent years. For the last several years the board has held its budget workshops in June, and has passed its budget and appropriations ordinances in July, a full quarter into the fiscal year.
