This is always a busy time of year, but, then again, when aren’t there busy times? So get your calendars out and circle the dates of some important events coming up.

Blythe Park School this month will be dedicating a stained-glass window in honor of the late Keith “Kip” Jensen. Jensen was a teacher in District 96 before assuming administrative duties, which included principal at Blythe Park School.

His long-term service to the students of the district was also recognized with a scoreboard at Hauser Junior High School. The dedication will take place on Friday, April 28 at 3:30 p.m. at Blythe Park School, 735 Leesley Road. Members of the Jensen family have planned to attend.

The following week Blythe Park School will be holding a reception for two of its retiring teachers, Cabrini Jablon and Carol Massey. The two teachers have given many years to students at Blythe and have even had the children of former students in their classes.

Members of the PTA have planned the reception for Thursday, May 4 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the school before the annual open house. Former students are invited and encouraged to attend to share some thoughts with the teachers. It also would be a good chance to revisit the school where so many students received their educational foundation.

A time capsule which had been “buried” in 1996 is scheduled to be open at Blythe School on May 24 at 2 p.m. I don’t know where it was buried or have any idea what was in the capsule, but it will fun to find out. Students or parents who were at the school in 1996 might find it interesting to see what the students wanted remembered.

Riverside-Brookfield High School Patrons’ Council will be having their fund raiser on Sunday, April 30. The format will be a fashion/talent show at the high school followed by refreshments at the Discovery Center at Brookfield Zoo. This important event helps fund various activities for the students, including the post prom party. For further information contact RB High School at 442-7500.

Know any grads from RB that you would care to nominate as distinguished alumni? The Alumni Achievement Committee is seeking individuals who may be named as an Alumni Achievement recipient for the year 2006.

People wanting to make nominations may contact the School at 442-7500 to receive a nomination form or learn more about the award. Recipients of the award will be honored at a dinner in October,

The Riverside Township Lions Club will be having their annual Chicken Dinner in May. Watch the Landmark for more information.

And finally, the North Riverside Community Theater group will be presenting the musical “Grease” starting this weekend. See this week’s calendar section for performance and ticket info.
