Albert C. Evans, 76, Former IBM sales rep
Albert Charles “Ace” Evans, 76, a resident of Indian Head Park and former 35-year resident of Riverside, died June 8, 2006 at Gottlieb Hospital in Melrose Park.
Mr. Evans was born in Chicago on Oct. 28, 1929. He served in the U.S. Navy, attaining the rank of captain before retiring. He was also a sales representative for the IBM company for over 25 years, and belonged to many military organizations.
Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Lucy P. Evans (nee Pumilia); his children Christopher C. Evans and Kathleen F. Evans; his granddaughter, Rebecca; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen (the late Alphonse) Alekno.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on June 12 at St. John of the Cross Church in Western Springs. Interment was private. Memorial contributions were appreciated to the American Cancer Society or the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

Manuel Gonzalez Sr., 98, Metallurgist
Chicago resident Manuel Gonzalez Sr., 98, formerly of Brookfield, died June 10, 2006 at Alden Town Manor Rehabilitation & Health in Cicero. Born in Mexico on Oct. 27, 1907 to Pedro and Guadalupe Gonzalez, Mr. Gonzalez was a metallurgist. Mr. Gonzalez and his wife, the late Trinidad Gonzalez, raised five children. Preceding Mr. Gonzalez in death were his sons, Oscar (Mercedes) Gonzalez, Haime Gonzalez and Hector (Maria) Gonzalez.
He is survived by his daughters, Sylvia (the late Sam) Martinez of Chicago and Beatrice Gonzalez. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, June 14 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St., Brookfield, followed at 10 a.m. by a funeral Mass at St. Barbara Church, 4008 Prairie Ave., Brookfield. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Barbara J. Rohde, 59, Retired stockbroker
Brookfield resident Barbara J. Rohde, formerly of Berwyn, died June 3, 2006 at her home. She was 59 years old.
A stockbroker who worked for over 20 years at Household Bank Financial Services in Chicago, Rohde retired in 2005. In addition, she was a Mensa Society member and enjoyed gardening.
She lived in Berwyn for 19 years, from 1973 and 1992, before making the move to Brookfield, where she lived until her death. Ms. Rohde is survived by her mother, Vera J. Rohde (nee Sharpe); her sisters, Carol Franz and Linda Rohde; her nephew, Richard (Laurie) Franz; her aunt, Delores Johnson; and three great-nieces. She was preceded in death by her father, Henry M. Rohde.
Private funeral services were followed by interment at Elwood Memorial Park in River Grove. Memorial contributions were appreciated to either the Salvation Army of the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago Ill. 60635.
Veta Romolt, 89, Seamstress
Veta Romolt, 89, a Bolingbrook resident who formerly lived in Brookfield and Joliet, died June 4, 2006 at Edward Hospital in Naperville.
Born in Chicago on July 9, 1916 to Jacob and Sophia (nee Brouseseu) Romolt, Ms. Romolt worked as a seamstress for a manufacturing company and was known for her independence, determination and love for birds.
Preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Abe and Ben Romolt; and her sister, Clara Cornick, Ms. Romolt is survived by her brother, Oscar (Evelyn) Romolt, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service, officiated by Rabbi Andrea Cosnowsky, was held June 7 at Hitzeman Funeral Home, Brookfield, followed by interment at Westlawn Cemetery, Chicago.
