In the wake of heavy rains in northern Illinois, the National Weather Service has issued a flood warning and is predicting that the Des Plaines River at Riverside will surpass flood stage early tomorrow morning before cresting at 7.6 feet on Saturday afternoon. Flood stage in Riverside is 7 feet.
At 1:45 p.m., the National Weather Service’s Advance Hydrologic Prediction Service reported that the Des Plaines River in Riverside was at 4.86 feet and rising.
At 7.6 feet, flooding would be minor, and confined to low lying areas such as Swan Pond and park land near the river. The river is expected to fall below flood stage by Sunday evening.
