Feel like taking a scenic run through one of Riverside’s most historic neighborhoods and help a good cause at the same time? Then you may want to sign up for Race for Jen’s Kids, a 5K run serving as a fundraiser for Jen’s Kids, an outreach program of the Riverside Arts Center.

Jen’s Kids, celebrating its 12th anniversary in 2009, provides therapeutic art activities for children hospitalized at the Ronald McDonald Children’s Hospital and the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center of Loyola University Medical Center.

The organization is funded by private donations, including money raised by hosting the road race, which is a first for the Arts Center and Jen’s Kids.

The race will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 on a course that winds through Riverside’s First Division, which is located south of the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railroad tracks.

The start line is located near the intersection of Scottswood and Barrypoint roads, just west of the Riverside Presbyterian Church. Race packet pickup will be on Friday, August 28 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Riverside Arts Center, 32 E. Quincy St., or from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 29 near the start of the race. All participants must pick up their packets prior to the start of the race.

The cost to register is $25 per person ($30 day of race). For more information visit www.riversideartscenter.com or www.jenskids.org.
