The search for a new superintendent for Riverside-Brookfield High school will get started in earnest next week. On Monday and Tuesday three consultants from the search firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates Ltd. will come to RB and conduct extensive interviews with District 208 school board members, teachers, staff, students and community leaders in an attempt to learn what RB needs and wants in a new superintendent.
The meetings will conclude Tuesday night, Sept. 29, with an open community forum scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in RB’s Alumni Lounge. There the consultants will ask questions and seek comments about the needs of RB. Everyone is invited to attend.
The consultants will be attempting to find out what attributes the community wants the new superintendent to possess.
“We also ask two other questions,” said lead consultant Bill Attea, who was a superintendent for 24 years at Glenview District 34. “What are the strengths of the district, and what are the challenges the district is going to face.”
The open forum is an opportunity for the community to tell the consultants what they want in a new superintendent, according to District 208 school board President James Marciniak.
“It’s a chance for folks in the community to provide help in the superintendent search process,” Marciniak said. “Basically, we’re seeking input.”
After doing a lot of listening, the consultants will then develop a leadership profile that will outline the qualities the district is seeking in a new superintendent.
The consultants will use the leadership profile they create to guide their search for a new leader for the district. They will present a summary of their findings at the Oct. 13 school board meeting. That’s when they will present to the school board a description of the desired qualities of the new superintendent.
Community members can also contribute to the development of the leadership profile by completing a leadership profile assessment form that is available on the RB Web site (www.rbhs208.org). This two-page form can be completed online or printed out.
If printed out, completed forms can mailed directly to HYA at 1151 Waukegan Road Glenview, Ill. 60025. The form can also be returned to district secretary Mary Ann Nardi at RB and she will send the completed forms on to the consultants. Leadership profile assessment forms will be accepted through Sept. 30.
