Bill Russ, a Brookfield resident running in the Democratic primary for commissioner of Cook County’s 16th District, has picked up the endorsement of the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization.
A former Brookfield village trustee and president, Russ is running against McCook Mayor Jeffrey Tobolski and former Northlake alderman Eddy Garcia in the Feb. 2, 2010 primary election. The winner will face off against the winner of the Republican race, which pits incumbent Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica, of Riverside, against Brian Sloan, a resident and village trustee in Westchester.
Both Republican candidates survived challenges to their nominating petitions. An objection to Sloan’s paperwork filed by Peraica was overruled by the electoral board on Thursday. Meanwhile, a challenge to Peraica’s nominating petitions, filed by a Cicero woman, was also overruled.
