Riverside-Brookfield High School introduced the second of three finalists for the principal’s job this afternoon during an open forum for residents and staff prior to a formal interview with the District 208 school board later tonight.
David Travis, associate principal for instruction at Elk Grove High School District 214, joins Troy Gobble as the two finalists who have been introduced so far. The final candidate, rumored to be a woman, will be introduced to the community tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m. in the Alumni Lounge at the high school, 160 Ridgewood Road in Riverside.
Travis has been associate principal at Elk Grove High School, which has an enrollment of 2,100 students, since 2007. The district serves students in both Elk Grove and Des Plaines, and according to its 2009 school report card issued by the Illinois State Board of Education, Elk Grove High School is on academic watch status for the second straight year.
Prior to his tenure at Elk Grove High School, Travis was at Addison Trail-Willowbrook High School District 88 for two years as social studies department chair. He also spent three years as a social studies teacher at Kaneland High School and a year at Aurora East High School, beginning in 2001.
From 1989-98, Travis served in the U.S. Air Force in California.
