ROUNDUP
It appears that if the name of your school started with the letter N, then your team did pretty well at the IHSA State Swim Meet last weekend.

The top 4 teams, in order of finish, were Naperville Central (156 points), Neuqua Valley (153), New Trier (151) and Naperville North (102.5). Coming off a seventh place finish at state last season, Fenwick swim team didn’t have quite the firepower on hand this time around.

Fenwick’s 200-yard freestyle relay team was the sole qualifier for the Friars in Saturday’s finals. Juniors Eric Bell, Ryan Greenway, Connor Brown and senior Will Rigali placed ninth overall in 1:27.25.

In the prelims on Friday, Bell finished 17th in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.87 seconds.

“Friday was a long day,” said Fenwick head coach Luke McGuire. “We had a meeting in the gym before the 200 free relay and got everyone focused. I was happy with the boys swim Saturday, for they picked up one place from prelims.”

Fenwick graduates just one senior from its group of state qualifiers in Will Rigali.

LT wrestling

Lyons Township’s wrestling season concluded with a 38-27 loss to West Suburban (Silver) Conference rival Oak Park in the Class 3A Dual Team State Wrestling Meet on Feb. 23.

Down 9-0 after the first three bouts, the Lions stormed back with wins by Bob Gavrich at 112 pounds and a major decision by Carter Beebe at 119 put LT up 10-9. However, Oak Park secured the next five bouts for the victory.

RB swimming

There was an error in a brief that ran in last week’s issue regarding the results of the Riverside-Brookfield swim team at the Fenwick Sectional.

The Bulldogs, who finished third with 180 points, behind Fenwick (273) and Oak Park (252), were led by John Copp. Copp finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 54.17 seconds.
