Brookfield Police Chief Steven Stelter will be heading off to the U.S. Marine base at Quantico, Va., next month to participate in the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Academy for top police executives.

Stelter, Brookfield’s chief of police since December 2007, will attend the academy from April 11 through June 18. The 10-week program will put Stelter in contact with law enforcement executives from across the nation and from150 foreign countries.

According to Stelter, the cost for attending the academy, including housing and meals, is paid for by the federal government. Past Brookfield police chiefs attending the academy have included Arthur Kuncl and Herbert Livermore, according to a press release issued by the village of Brookfield last week.

Riverside Police Chief Thomas Weitzel attended the academy in 2004. His deputy chief, John Krull, attended the academy in 2007.
