The Cook County State’s Attorney has charged Steven Kellmann, 30, with one count of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery in the stabbing death of 65-year-old Brookfield resident, Marilyn E. Fay.

Kellmann, whose address was listed as in the 9100 block of Sherman Avenue, Brookfield, will appear at the Maybrook courthouse tomorrow morning for a bond hearing, according to a state’s attorney spokesman.

Fay, a longtime Chicago Public Schools teacher who retired in 2007, was a part-time reference librarian at the Brookfield Public Library. She was found dead on Monday afternoon in the bedroom of her home at 3322 Arthur Ave. According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office she died from multiple stab wounds and “asphyxia due to assault.”

Kellmann and a 23-year-old Arlington Heights woman were arrested at the Pink Palace Motel at 7050 Archer Ave. in Chicago just hours after Fay’s body was discovered by police. Fay’s Jeep was parked nearby in the 5300 block of Nottingham Ave.

The woman was not charged, according to the state’s attorney’s spokesman.
