Aldo E. Cardelli, 85, of Riverside, died July 11, 2010. Mr. Cardelli served as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, flying in China with a squadron that traced its origins to the famed Flying Tigers, the legendary all-volunteer force that served in the Chinese Air Force prior to the United States’ entry into the war.

He was a member of the Stickney VFW and American Legion, Disabled American Veterans and the Riverside Township Lions Club.

Mr. Cardelli is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cardelli (nee Soper); his children, Dr. James Cardelli, John A. (Sandra) Cardelli and Laura M. (George) Selimos; his grandchildren, Roxane (Anthony) Pasquinelli, Tech Sgt. Darinda (Master Sgt. Gary Russell, USAF) Cardelli, USAF, James Selimos and David Selimos; and his great grandchildren, DeShawn Russell and Donovan Russell.

He was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Jason A. Cardelli, and his grandson, Pfc. Sean Cardelli, USMC.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 15 from 2 p.m. until the time of a service at 3 p.m. at the Mount Auburn Funeral Home, 4101 S. Oak Park Ave., Stickney.
