Two Brookfield residents, Katherine Sauer and Constantina Savas, are among the 17 Lyons Township High School students named National Merit semifinalists, who will now compete for some 8,200 National Merit scholarships that will be offered in the spring.
More than 1.5 million students across the nation entered the Merit program as high school juniors by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. High scorers were designated semifinalists, which represents less than 1 percent of the state’s graduating class.
Semifinalists advance to finalist status upon completion of additional requirements, including maintaining outstanding academic achievement as seniors, being recommended by their principal, submitting SAT scores confirming the qualifying test and completing a scholarship application.
