The Riverside-Brookfield volleyball team finished third at the Maine West Pumpkin Tournament on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (19-15) downed Palatine 25-20, 25-17 behind Elena Duve’s 11 kills, five digs and an ace. Kelsey Egger added six kills and two blocks for the Bulldogs, while the trio of Cassie Cook, Megan Walsen, and Meghan Orgler each tallied three kills apiece. Maggie Zeleny finished with two kills, two aces and seven digs in the win.

Before going 2-3 in the tournament, the Bulldogs defeated Ridgewood 25-22, 25-22 in Metro Suburban Conference action last week. Alleigh Vandemerkt led RB with 17 assists, four aces and six digs.

RB girls cross-country

The Bulldogs finished second with 63 points at the Metro Suburban Conference Meet on Saturday. Maggie McLaughlin led RB with a fifth-place finish in 20:05.

Glenbard South finished first with 27 points.

RB boys golf

Kris Strnad finished tied for 86th at the Class 2A State Tournament held at Weibring Golf Club in Bloomington-Normal last week. Strnad, a senior, finished with an overall score of 179.

Strnad shot a 76 – 4 over par – at the Links of Carillon Golf Club in the Nazareth Academy Sectional to advance to state.

RB boys soccer

The Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 6-1 thumping of Metro Suburban Conference foe Illiana Christian on Senior Night last week. Ruben Chavez scored five goals for RB. The junior now holds the school record for most goals in a season with 26.

LT soccer

The Lions won the West Suburban (Silver) Conference outright with a 2-1 win over York last week. Elliot Borge scored both goals for Lyons.

The victory marked the program’s third straight conference title and fifth in the last six years.

Also last week, the Lions (18-1-2) crushed Lockport 4-0 and Benet 3-0.

LT girls golf

The Lions finished 10th at the Class AA State Tournament held at Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth. Katy Ellis led the team by finishing 17th overall with a final score of 159 in the two rounds.

Backed by Ellis’s 4-over par 73, Lyons also finished second at the Nazareth Academy Sectional held at Willow Crest Golf Club last week. Other finishers included Lindsey Purpura (78), Ciara Rattana (82), Rachael Johnson (91), Jamie Blechschmidt (95) and Emma Pasquinelli (102).

LT tennis

The Lions finished second in their own sectional on Saturday. Freshman Alex Chatt finished fourth in singles and qualified for the state tournament.

Fenwick soccer

The Friars wrapped up the regular season with a 4-3 victory over De La Salle last week. David Tracy led Fenwick with two goals, while Albano Latifi and Joe Fahey each added one apiece.

Quinn Smith, Tom Semba and Justin Giacotto all had assists for the Friars, who also blanked St. Patrick 3-0 last week. Giacotto scored two goals in that win, while Austin Nelson added on.

Fenwick, the sixth seed in the Argo Sectional, begin the Class 3A playoffs today with an 11-8-1 overall record.

Fenwick volleyball

Not even Senior Night could help lift the Friars past second-ranked Marist last week. Fenwick honored its upperclassmen but fell 19-25, 18-25. Kelly Brennan and Sarah Hunt each finished with four kills apiece for the Friars. Brennan also had seven digs.

Fenwick swimming

The Friars finished sixth at the Trevian Relays on Saturday. Paulina Kaminski finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.50 and fifth in the 200 individual medley in 2:13.59.
