Elaine E. Engler, Retired hospital billing clerk

Elaine E. Engler (nee Schmidt), 83, a longtime resident of Brookfield, died Oct. 21, 2010 at Lexington Manor Nursing Home in LaGrange.

Ms. Engler married George H. Engler, who preceded his wife in death on Feb. 14, 1986. She worked for more than 15 years as a billing clerk at LaGrange Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1985. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and playing the organ.

Ms. Engler is survived by her son, Michael J. Engler; her stepson, Richard (Catherine) Engler; her stepgrandson, Robert Roth; her brother, Merle (Pat) Schmidt; and her sister, Florence (the late Alvin) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her stepdaughter, Judith Roth, and her sister, Marcie (John) Asaro.

Funeral services were private. Interment was at Clarendon Hills Cemetery in Darien.
