It was the same result, but a totally different story for the Lyons Township boys basketball team.

A year after the Lions were rocked by 30 points at home against powerful Simeon in a sectional semifinal, they truly tested the Wolverines in a re-match on Friday night at the Class 4A Argo Sectional Championship, but came up short 64-51.

Lyons, playing without leading scorer/rebounder Nick Zeisloft (ankle injury), trailed 54-49 with 1:35 left in the game. Simeon, which made 12 free throws in the fourth quarter, went on a 10-2 run the rest of the way to seal the victory.

Playing only six players, the Lions jumped out to a 22-12 lead by making 8-of-11 shots with 7:05 left until halftime. Simeon went on a 15-4 spurt in the third quarter to take a 36-33 lead, but LT stayed close until the final minute.

Seniors Eric Powers (16 points, 5 rebounds), Dylan Fiedler (15 points) and Mark Sewall (15 points) led LT. Sophomore Kendrick Nunn scored 16 points for the Wolverines (27-2), who advance to the Supersectionals against Farragut.

Lyons (26-3) closes out a stellar season. The team won its own Thanksgiving tournament, finished second at the Jack Tosh Holiday Classic, and took first place in the West Suburban (Silver) Conference with a perfect 12-0 record.
