Longtime North Riverside resident William F. Boehnert, 94, died March 13, 2011, at the Scottish Home in North Riverside.

Mr. Boehnert was born in Joliet on Jan. 27, 1917, to William A. and Martha Boehnert. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-45 during World War II. A sergeant/radioman, he fought in four campaigns in the Pacific Theater of Operations. After the war, he worked for United Airlines for 35 years and a ramp service supervisor.

Mr. Boehnert moved to North Riverside after World War II, residing in the village for 64 years. He also was a passionate HAM radio operator, known to other enthusiasts as W9WJZ.

Mr. Boehnert is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret A. Boehnert; his daughters, Krista Ann (James) Roche, of Baton Rouge, and Judy M. (Daniel) Clune; his grandchildren, Jim (Sally Sprouse) Roche, Margaret Clune (Bryan) Giblin, Sarah Boehnert Clune and Kathryn Anne Clune; and his great grandson, Daniel Giblin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Elfrieda Boehnert; and his granddaughter, Heather Erin Roche.

A memorial service, with James Votava officiating, has been held. He was buried at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Joliet.
