Marilyn Maley (nee DeGiorgio), 81, a longtime resident of North Riverside, died March 27, 2011, at her home.

Known around the village as “Ms. Marilyn,” she was a longtime employee of the village of North Riverside, working since 1986 both as a community service officer and as a crossing guard.

“She crossed the school children at the corner of 26th and Westover for several years,” said Police Chief Anthony Garvey. “Marilyn was a very reliable and dedicated employee, whose first concern was the safety of the school children that she watched over at her crossing.”

Garvey continued, “Ms. Marilyn, as she was fondly known by many of the students and their parents, will be sorely missed.”

Ms. Maley was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Maley. She is survived by her dear friend, Marie Formato (nee Gajda). Funeral services are private.

Memorials in Ms. Maley’s name may be made to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, 424 E. 92nd St., New York, N.Y. 10128.
