Debra I. Slomski (nee Hensley), 55, of Brookfield, died March 28, 2011 at Alden Town Manor Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Cicero.
Born in Decatur on Dec. 18, 1955, to Pledger and Norma Hensley, she later married Bernard J. Slomski, who survives his wife. Ms. Slomski worked as a secretary for the Riverside United Methodist Church for the past four years. Prior to that, she provided child care for the church during the worship hour.
“She and her husband, Ben, and daughter, Hannah, had also served as the custodial team for the church, so she was very active in the part-time employ of the church as well as having been a valued member,” said Pastor Doug Asbury.
In addition to her husband and her mother, Ms. Slomski is survived by her daughter, Hannah Slomski; her stepchildren, Steven Slomski and Jessica Slomski; and her siblings, Albert (Shirley) Hensley, Cheryl McCurdy, Jackie (Benny) Bundy and Kathy Derbort.
A funeral service was held March 31 at Riverside United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Forest Park.
Memorial donations were appreciated to Riverside United Methodist Church, 82 Woodside Road, Riverside, Ill. 60546.
