Marie L. Pekar, 97, died on April 21, 2011 at the Laurels, part of the British Home Community in Brookfield. She attended Lincoln Elementary School in Brookfield and Lyons Township High School in LaGrange. Marie The office manager at Southwest Suburban Community Mental Health Association in LaGrange for over 25 years, she retired in 1974 and enjoyed crocheting, traveling, playing cards, and bingo.
During her life, Mrs. Pekar was active in the Brookfield Historical Society, the Brookfield Women of the Moose, the Congress Park School PTA and the Lyons Township High School Home School Council.
Marie Pekar is survived by her children, Allen (Jane) Pekar and Daria (Thomas) Durham; her grandchildren, Christopher (Tanya) Pekar, Alexander (Kelly) Pekar, and Andra Durham; and her great-grandchildren, Annabel and Otis Pekar. She was preceded in death by her husband Louis E. Pekar, who died on March 26, 1989.
Services were held at Johnson Funeral Home in Brookfield on April 26 followed by interment at the Mausoleum of Mt. Auburn Memorial Park in Stickney.
