Walter R. “Wally” Johnson, 80, of Henryville, Ind., and formerly of Brookfield, died April 30, 2011 at Clark Memorial Hospital, in Clarksville.

Born in Oak Park on Jan. 6, 1931 to Leonard and Lillian (nee Gogerty) Johnson, he graduated from Morton High School in Cicero in 1949 and had a long career as a police officer in Brookfield. He joined the force in 1961 and retired in 1992 as a lieutenant. He also enjoyed gardening and was Civil War history buff.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Sandra “Sam” Johnson (nee Cashman); his son, John K. Padgen; his daughter, Theresa (Todd) Kuciunas; his grandchildren, Travis Kuciunas, Alyssa Kuciunas and John B. Padgen; his sister, Lenore (Leonard) Serwat; his brother, William L. Johnson; his sisters-in-law, Lavada Cashman, Mary (Kenneth) Kibler; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Johnson.
