The Lyons Township (30-3) baseball team finished its spectacular regular season by blasting Fremd 10-0 in five innings on Saturday.
Senior right-hander Zach Remigas (8-0) and sophomore Keith Lehmann combined for a three-hitter. Brian Rodemoyer belted a grand slam while Tom Walsh and Brian Kelly both hit two-run shots.
Lyons (30-3) plays the winner of Bartlett/West Chicago this week in the Schaumburg Regional. If the Lions win, they advance to Saturday’s 11 a.m. regional championship game.
The Riverside-Brookfield baseball team went 0-3 against Ridgewood last week. The team lost to its Metro Suburban Conference opponent by scores of 9-8, 5-1 and 3-2.
“After three great weeks, this [week] was definitely disappointing,” RB coach Dallas Till said. “We were up late in two of the three games against Ridgewood and couldn’t close them out.”
The Bulldogs (21-12-1, 10-8 Metro Suburban Conference) earned a victory to start the week with a 5-4 decision over Stagg in nine innings. Vito DeRango scored the game-winning run and pitcher Chris Duplancich worked the ninth to earn his first career win. Starter Ryan Brown scattered six hits over eight innings.
Riverside-Brookfield opens the playoffs against the winner of Amundsen/Noble Street on tonight (Wednesday, May 25, after deadline) at the Gordon Tech Regional. The regional’s title game is Saturday (11 a.m.).
Third baseman Charlie Morrissey, pitcher David Tortorici, centerfielder Tyler Radek and shortstop DeRango earned Metro Suburban All-Conference honors last week.
Lyons Township finished second at the Downers Grove South Sectional with 24 points last week.
Junior Connor Wasz won two rounds and finished third overall in singles to qualify for the state finals. The Lions’ doubles teams of Jake Elliott-Danny Schuster (4-0) and Will Longo-Kam Weeraklaew (3-1) took first and third, respectively, to also qualify for state.
The Bulldogs (21-7, 8-3 Metro Suburban Conference) rolled past Ridgewood 12-0 on Thursday to complete a successful regular season run under first-year varsity head coach John Vermillion. Kiley Rusen went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and four RBIs and winning pitcher Kylie O’Connell (12-5) added a solo home run against Ridgewood.
The Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed overall in the St. Francis Sectional.
LT girls track and field
Julie Dambra took fourth in the 400-meter dash at state with a time of 57.61 seconds on Saturday. The Lions also performed well in the 3200, with Lisa Gordon finishing 12th (11:14.53).
LT girls lacrosse
Top-seeded Lyons Township defeated York 22-10 in the semifinals of the Oak Park-River Forest Sectional on Thursday. Emily Pavlik scored six goals and Caitlin Campion had four goals for the Lions (14-6).
