The Riverside-Brookfield volleyball team’s historic season came to a close last week with a 23-25, 27-29 loss to St. Rita in the Reavis Sectional Championship.

The two teams battled it out throughout the two sets with St. Rita rallying in the final to close out the win. The Bulldogs, who, with a 28-11 record, finished the season with the highest win total in program history, were led by Gordon Fieseler. The senior tallied 11 kills to go along with two assists and two digs. Alex Dziegwa added five kills, while Ben Bergstrom chipped in four.

Riverside-Brookfield was paced by Elliot Louthen, who dished out 20 assists. Louthen also finished with two kills, an ace and five digs on the night.

The extended rallies were a result of RB’s Hrvoje Zolo and Stephen McCroary. The duo finished with a combined 15 digs and two aces.

Along with the highest win total, the Bulldogs also set numerous individual records. Louthen set the career and single season record in assists, with 33 in a match and 644 for the season. He finished his high school career with 1,770 assists and 111 aces, also school records. Dziagwa’s 61 blocks during the season and 96 in his career were also new records. Rich Green’s momentous performance against Harper in the regional semifinal set a new state record for aces. Green finished with 14 to lead the Bulldogs to a 25-5, 25-1 win.
