Sylvia C. Drnek (nee Zapotocky), 92, of Brookfield, died June 16, 2011.

Born Dec. 30, 1918 in Chicago to James and Rose Zapotocky, she married Rudolph Drnek, with whom she raised two children.

Ms. Drnek was involved in many organizations while in Brookfield, including the Women of the Moose, United Moravian Societies, the Berwyn Cicero Council on Aging and the St. Louise Women’s club.

In addition to her devotion to her family, Ms. Drnek was also known for her passion for ballroom dancing and she also enjoyed oil painting.

Ms. Drnek is survived by her husband, Rudolph; her children, James E. (Deborah) Drnek Sr., of LaGrange Park, and Sylvia (Andrew) Sherlag; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Brian) Dusza, James (Suzanne) Drnek, Amy (Keith) Burokas, Jesse (Katie) Drnek, Alyce (Rafael) Alexander, Katie (Roman) Vyskocil, Nick (Karli) Sherlag and Joseph Sherlag; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated June 20 at St. Louise de Marillac Church in LaGrange Park, followed by interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
