A 21-year-old Brookfield man remains hospitalized after he was shot in the neck by reputed gang members as he stood outside of an Ogden Avenue tavern in Lyons on Saturday, July 23.
According to police, the victim and a group of friends were standing outside of Ricky D’s, 7901 Ogden Ave. at about 10 p.m. when they became engaged in an argument with a group of younger teenagers walking by the tavern.
The teenagers, said to be 14 and 15 years old, reportedly returned to the scene about an hour later and one of the group fired multiple times with a handgun at the victim and at least one other friend from across the street. Police recovered shell casings at the scene, but did not want to comment on the type of weapon used or whether a weapon had been recovered.
Brian Kuratko, a commander with the Lyons police, said investigators have interviewed several persons of interest. No one is in police custody at this time, he said.
“We have leads on who these people might be,” Kuratko said.
The victim was is critical condition when he was taken to MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn on Saturday night, said Kuratko. He did not have an update on the man’s condition Tuesday morning.
Lyons police are being assisted in the investigation by the west suburban Major Case Assistance Team (MCAT), which includes detectives from Lyons, Riverside, Countryside, LaGrange, Brookfield, Hodgkins, Indian Head Park, McCook, North Riverside and Western Springs.
