Did someone kill Alana Waters-Piper’s chickens? We’ll probably never know the answer to that question, although it does appear awfully coincidental that all three would die the same week a newspaper article appeared about them, the family’s garage door was found mysteriously open and a flier was circulated in the neighborhood giving the family’s address and asking people with strong opinions to attend a village board meeting Monday.

The village postponed that discussion Monday due to what was termed a criminal investigation into the hens’ deaths.

We’re urging the village not to put this on the back burner for long. If, indeed, someone purposefully killed the birds in order to voice opposition and derail discussion, the village can’t appear to be caving in. We’re talking about what ought to be a rational discussion of a village law. Make sure it takes place.
