The Lyons Township boys soccer team advanced to the Pepsi Showdown semifinals with a 2-0 win over Larkin on Saturday.

The Lions scored in the ninth minute of the match when Brett Heimerdinger scored a goal. Jon Jakob Lauser added an insurance goal off an assist from Frankie Kocimski in the second half. Senior goalkeeper Max Hadley had five saves en route to his fourth shutout on the season.

Lyons is 4-1-2 on the season.

 

RB soccer

The Bulldogs won their third match in a row with a 4-2 home victory over University High last Thursday. The Bulldogs (3-5) have been led this season by former Metro Suburban Conference MVP Ruben Chavez, Max Dorsey, Eddie Marentes and Jon Kingzette.

 

LT volleyball

The defending state champs grabbed victories over Glenbard South (25-13, 27-25), Nazareth (25-11, 26-28, 25-19) and Normal (25-22, 25-17) in a quad last week. Led by the play of Laura Williams (8 kills, 3 aces), Alexis Viliunas (18 assists) and Megan Miller (17 digs), the Lions also secured a 25-12, 25-23 conference win over OPRF last week.

 

RB volleyball

The Bulldogs (4-4) won three of five matches at the Leyden invite to finish runner-up. Elena Duve served four of the Bulldogs’ 16 aces in a 25-22, 25-11 win over Highland Park. Lizzy Hawk (2 kills, 12 assists) and Duve (6 kills) also led RB past Willowbrook 25-15, 25-19. RB earned its final victory over host Leyden 25-19, 25-23 as Amanda Lelivelt had five kills and Hawk contributed five aces and 11 assists.

 

LT girls golf

The Lions took third place at the Bishop McNamara invite over the weekend. Marian Catholic won the event with 312 points, followed by Homewood-Flossmoor (352) and LT (355) to round out the top three teams.

Earlier last week, Hinsdale Central edged the Lions 163-164 in a West Suburban (Silver) Conference dual match showdown. Katie Ellis and Ciara Rattana both shot a team-best 39 for LT (4-1), while teammates Jamie Blechschmidt (42) and Emma Pasquinelli (44) also played well. The Red Devils’ Rosanna Lederhausen was the match medalist with a 37.

 

RB boys golf

The Bulldogs won two of three matches last week with victories over De La Salle 180-231 and Elmwood Park 173-191. Austin Adamec carded team-best scores of 43 and 40, respectively, in those matches. Mike Hornung shot a 44 against De La Salle and Matt Quintana scored a 42 against Elmwood Park.

 

RB swimming

The Bulldogs finished in 10th place at the Hinsdale invite on Saturday. Sydney Veon set a school record for frosh/soph with a time of 1:12.24 in the 100 breaststroke, while Emma Veon, Allie Burke, Dana Callanan, Abby Louthen, Ariel Moon and Kathleen Falk dropped times in various individual events.

 

Fenwick volleyball

The Fenwick and Oak Park girls volleyball teams battled for three sets in a cross-town showdown last week before the Friars were able to slip away with a 23-25, 25-19, 25-21 victory.

Olivia Soja led Fenwick with 10 kills, while Hannah Sophie added nine. Katie Bindon tallied 16 digs and Maggie Reilly 23 assists for the Friars.

Audrey Greffin (6 kills, 2 blocks), Kiley Nelson (5 kills) and Alena Tortelotte (4 kills, 2 aces) paced the Huskies. 

Fenwick also outlasted area-rival Trinity last week with a three-set victory. The Friars edged the Blazers 25-18, 23-25, 25-21 with the help of Nikki Bartecki’s eight kills and Bindon’s 15 digs.
