Joseph L. Ekl, 89, of North Riverside, died Sept. 19, 2011 at Foster G. McGaw Hospital at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood.
Mr. Ekl was born in East Moline on March 18, 1922 and served in the U.S military. He was employed as a building contractor.
Mr. Ekl is survived by his wife, Leora L. Ekl (nee Suchy), of North Riverside; his children, John Ekl, Terry (Joanne) Ekl and Janis Ekl; his stepchildren, Mark Suchy, Kimberly Suchy, Paul Suchy and Scott Suchy; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Ekl, Charles Ekl, Tracy Stanker, Kathryn Finnegan, Jake Ekl, Kevin Garvey, Kathy Ekl, Jennifer Stoker, Jodi Ekl, Linday Ekl and Kelly Ekl; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, June Ekl (nee Butler).
Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Hitzeman Funeral Home, 9445 31st St. in Brookfield.
