Lyons Township fell to Libertyville 2-1 in overtime at the Pepsi Showdown championship on Sunday at Toyota Park in Bridgeview.
The Lions’ Elliot Borge scored on a header to even the score at 1-1 in the 30th minute of the match. Adam Witucki netted the game-winner for the Wildcats at the 1:05 mark in overtime.
The match marked the Lions’ second championship game appearance (both losses) over the past three Pepsi Showdown tournaments.
In the semifinals on Saturday, LT (5-3-2) outlasted Metea Valley 2-1 in a double overtime win. Mark Pawula and Brett Heimderdinger each scored a goal for the Lions.
RB boys soccer
The Bulldogs picked up two wins and a tie last week to move their record to 5-5-1 on the season. The team began the week with a 4-3 home win over Plainfield East on followed by Thursday’s 3-2 victory at Ridgewood in Metro Suburban Conference action. The Bulldogs tied Brother Rice 1-1 on Saturday.
RB swimming
The Bulldogs scored 185 points en route to a fourth-place showing at their own invite Saturday. Oak Park (376.5), Lake Park (333.5) and Marian Catholic (245) finished in the top three.
Kathleen Falk led the Bulldogs with four excellent swims, notably in the 100-yard backstroke (1:07.26) and a personal-best 100-yard freestyle split time of 59.50. Emma Veon swam well in the 200 IM (2:34.76), while Abby Louthen (1:11.84) and Ariel Moon (1:13.66) both recorded excellent times in the 100-yard butterfly
RB boys golf
Austin Adamec shot a personal best 36 as the Bulldogs beat Morton 167-180. The Bulldogs lost their other two matches to Timothy Christian (163-176) and Glenbard South (168-172) last week. Jack Kemper led the Bulldogs with a 38 in each of those dual conference matches
LT boys golf
The Lions won the Batavia invite with a team score of 302. Charlie Netzel and Dan Hudson both shot 74s. Ryan Hudson and Jack Ferguson each carded 77s and Kevin Carlson’s 78 was used for the tiebreaker against the host Bulldogs.
LT girls cross-country
Lyons took fourth place (171 points) at the David Brady Invitational hosted by Argo on Saturday. Senior Tess Saibert was the Lions’ top runner with a time of 19:37.3, finishing 13th overall.
RB volleyball
The Bulldogs captured fifth place out of 16 teams at the Maine East Demon Invitational on Saturday. Elena Duve led RB (9-6) in the tournament with 37 kills, four aces, and 41 digs. Lizzy Hawk finished with 53 assists, 22 digs and 16 aces, while Heather Conway tallied 53 digs, and Meghan Orgler 27 kills.
Junior Bulldog basketball tryouts
