The Riverside-Brookfield soccer team clinched the Metro Conference Championship with a 4-3 win over Glenbard South last week.

The Bulldogs (9-7-2, 5-1) also defeated Illiana Christian 3-1, tied Morton 1-1 and lost to Maine East 3-1 last week.

The team was to open the Class 2A playoffs at home on Tuesday (after deadline) against Juarez in a regional semifinal match.

LT boys golf

The Lyons Township boys golf team’s bid for a state championship opened in impressive fashion as the Lions edged rival Hinsdale Central 298-300 to win the Class 3A Wheaton Warrenville South Regional last week.

Charlie Netzel shot a 71 and Dan Hudson carded a 73 to pace the deep Lions. Peter Swanson (75), Jack Ferguson (79), Kevin Carlson (80) and Ryan Hudson (80) also played solid rounds for LT.

RB boys golf

Jack Kemper shot an 83 and just missed qualifying for a trip downstate when he lost in a playoff to Peotone’s John Swisher at the Lemont Sectional on Saturday. Austin Adamec carded an 84, missing the playoff by a stroke. Brett Hoyd, Mike Hornung and Karl Jantze also represented the Bulldogs well at the sectional.

In the opening round of the state playoffs (Tuesday, Oct. 4), the Bulldogs shot 364 to finish fourth at the Nazareth Regional.

LT girls golf

Ciara Rattana fired an 81 to finish third individually while also leading the Lions (345) to a runner-up finish at the Hinsdale Central Regional behind the host Red Devils (319). Katie Ellis (86), Jamie Blechschmidt (87), Rachael Johnson (90), Jameson Mitchell (100) and Emma Pasquinelli (102) were the other golfers for LT, which advances to sectional competition this week.

The red-hot Lions (10-4-3) tuned up for the playoffs by winning three matches last week. The Lions shut out three opponents with a 1-0 victory over Hinsdale Central and a pair of 3-0 wins against Proviso West and Argo. Elliot Borge and Jack Thomas netted three goals and two goals, respectively, during the Lions’ undefeated week. Kovas Zygas and Hector Godinez each scored a goal against Argo, while Brett Heimerdinger assisted Borge’s game-winning goal verse Hinsdale Central.

RB girls volleyball

The Bulldogs (16-10) won 3-of-5 matches to take fourth place at the Wilmington Fall Classic on Saturday. After losing a pair of conference matches earlier last week, the Bulldogs bounced back with victories over Lake Forest Academy (25-8, 25-20), Bishop McNamara (25-20, 25-17) and Bradley-Bourbonnais (25-19, 25-17) to produce a strong showing at Wilmington. RB leaders for the week included Elena Duve (34 kills, 39 digs), Alleigh VandeMerkt (49 assists, 45 digs), Heather Conway (47 digs), Megan Walsen (17 kills, 13 digs) and Meghan Orgler (16 kills).

LT girls swimming

Lyons finished fourth (224) behind champion Loyola (338), runner-up Fenwick (307) and host Barrington (275) at the Fillies’ Swim Invitational on Saturday. In the JV competition, LT edged Fenwick 329-327 for first place.

LT tennis

Hinsdale Central’s Alex Solovyev defeated the Lions’ top singles player Alex Chatt 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles title match at Saturday’s West Suburban (Silver) Conference Championship hosted by Oak Park.

RB girls tennis

The Bulldogs rolled to wins over Richards 7-0 and Elmwood Park 6-1, leading into the Metro Suburban Conference tournament hosted by Glenbard South.
