Cecelia M. Duffy, 97, died Oct. 16, 2011 at her Riverside home.
Ms. Duffy was born on May 18, 1914 to Patrick and Nell (nee Murphy) Duffy and was raised on Chicago’s South Side. She graduated from DePaul University with a degree in social work and worked for Illinois Bell telephone for 42 years without ever taking a sick day.
When she retired in 1979, Ms. Duffy moved into the Riverside home of her sister-in-law, Helen Duffy, living there for the next 32 years.
A devout Catholic, Ms. Duffy was a longtime parishioner at St. Therese of the Infant Jesus in Chicago, St. Germaine in Oak Lawn and St. Mary in Riverside.
Ms. Duffy was preceded in death by her siblings, Mary, Frank and Terence; her sister-in-law, Helen Duffy (nee Sheehan); and her nephews, Martin F. Duffy and Joseph P. Duffy.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Holly (Joe) Walls, Mary Duffy, James (Jill Jasuta) Duffy and Thomas (Stella) Duffy; her great-nieces, Ann (Benjamin Pineda Hernandez) Walls, Helen (Will) Matthews and Makena Duffy; her great-nephew, Jeffrey Walls; her great-great-nephew, Lucas Pineda Walls; her caretaker, Sara Lopez; and many cousins and friends.
Visitation will be on Thursday, Oct. 20 from 3 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, Oct. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Ivins/Moravecek Funeral Home, 80 E. Burlington St., Riverside. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Church, 126 Herrick Road, in Riverside, followed by interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
