Thomas Leary scored the game-winning goal to lead the Riverside-Brookfield soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Glenbard South in the Class 2A Regional Championship on Saturday.

The Bulldogs (11-7-2), who also host the sectional were scheduled to take on St. Joseph Tuesday night (after deadline) at Shuey Stadium.

Since their 0-5 start, the Bulldogs have won 11 of 15 matches en route to conference and regional titles.

Lyons tennis

Lyons Township star sophomore singles tennis player Alex Chatt was a set away from capturing a state title on Saturday before two-time champ Jerricka Boone of Morgan Park Academy rallied for a dramatic 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 win in the singles state title match hosted by Prospect.

Chatt earned her way to the final with an impressive 6-3, 6-3 semifinal victory over Keisha Clusing of Wheaton Warrenville South. Led by veteran coach Bill Wham, LT recorded another strong top 10 state showing (seventh place tie) with York at 12 points apiece. Hinsdale Central scored 39 points to win the state title, its fifth over the last six years.

LT soccer

Elliot Borge, Brett Heimerdinger and Spiros Kass each scored a goal to power LT to a 3-1 win over Downers Grove North at the Class 3A York Sectional final. The victory marked the Lions’ eighth straight regional championship and a showdown with Morton (19-3-1) tonight (Wednesday, Oct. 26) at 7 p.m. in the Hinsdale Central Sectional semifinals. LT (14-4-3) defeated Morton 3-1 in a sectional final meeting last year.

RB volleyball

The Bulldogs (20-14, 7-5 Metro Suburban Conference) closed out the regular season with a 25-12, 25-16 victory over Morton in a “Volley for the Cure” match. The two teams collectively raised over $5,500, which will be donated to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation for breast cancer awareness and research.

On the season, Elena Duve (180 kills, 170 digs), Alleigh VandeMerkt (78 kills, 287 assists), Meghan Orgler (109 kills), Heather Conway (222 digs), Lizzy Hawk (320 assists, 147 digs) and Megan Walsen (111 digs) have led RB.

RB boys cross-country

The host Bulldogs (23 points) won their Class 2A Regional followed by St. Rita and Kennedy. RB placed three of the top five runners with excellent efforts from runner-up Travis Trevizo (16:24), Dan Curtin (16:45) and Chris Dziagwa (17:17). St. Rita’s Peter Schaible recorded a time of 16:08 to finish first.

LT girls cross-country

The Lions’ talented tandem of Lisa Gordon (17:44) and Alex Daemicke (18:04) finished second and fifth, respectively, to lift Class 3A regional host LT to the team title with 35 points. Downers South (46), Downers North (70), Hinsdale Central (96) and Hinsdale South (131) rounded out the top five.

RB girls cross-country

The host Bulldogs took third place with a score of 52, trailing regional champ Montini (23) and Nazareth (48) in the Class 2A regional race on Saturday. Maggie McLaughlin was the top runner for RB with a time of 19:22, good for fourth place.

RB swimming

RB defeated Fenton 110-41 in a dual meet last week. The Bulldogs will compete at the Independent Conference Championship hosted by DeKalb this weekend.

RB basketball camp

Riverside-Brookfield High School will be hosting a basketball camp between 11-1:30 this Sunday, Oct. 30 at the RB Field House. The camp is for boys between fourth and eighth grade. RB basketball coaches will work with the campers through drills, instruction, contests and games. Cost is $20 and registration is walk up at the school.
